A theme is a message, topic, lesson or idea that the author wants to share with you the reader. The author can either openly state the theme
or they can hide it the theme within the text for you to find.
1.) Themes and Reflections:
This book has a lot of great themes about friendship, passing judgement on to others, companionship, care, and more.
Pick two themes from the story and talk about their importance. Afterwards write about how you can apply these themes to your life. Then write a statement, lesson, modo, or theme that you currently live by and compare it to the story. If one of the themes you chose from the story matches up with your own personal theme or modo, then just compare the two themes. Once you are finished, create your own plaque by drawing a picture of your theme at the top and the two themes you liked in the story below it.
2.) Your Ideal Setting:
After reading the story try picture the setting of the story with your senses. What would it smell like? What would you hear or see? If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live? Where would your story take place and what would surroundings look like? The place you choose must relate to the setting within the story. You could live near forests, fields, hills, lakes, ponds, mountains, or other natural formations.
3.) What Animal Are You?
If you could be any fierce animal in the world what would you be? I want you to then write a short story about your animal and two main ideas or themes that you find important. Make sure that you follow the structure of the book by using big or little to describe your animal. Then include another animal using big or little. The other animal does not have to be the same as yours.
